More Information On used ski boats for sale

Day sailing yachts are usually small sub-20-feet (6 m) in length. Sometimes called dinghies, they often have a retractable keel, centerboard, or daggerboard. Most day sailing yachts do not have a cabin, as they are designed for hourly or daily use and not for overnight journeys. At best they may have a 'cubby', where the front part of the hull has a raised solid roof to provide a place to store equipment or to provide basic shelter from wind or spray.

Thu, 3 Jan 2008 12:44:39 +0200
Sailing Crew - First mate wanted for approximately 8 week sailing trip from Phuket to Cyprus. Must have blue water sailing experience and speak fluent English. I'm looking for a really solid individual who I can trust enough to be able to sleep when I'm not on watch! Non smoker, no drugs, no booze at sea. Prefer somebody who likes fishing and diving. Absolutely no contribution. I pay all travel costs to get to Thailand and back home from the Med. Would consider paying a modest salary to the right person.

Advance Notice of Arrival (ANOA) for cruising yachts required in some countries.

Mon, 8 Oct 2007 21:35:44 +0200
Countries around the world are fast changing existing regulations or activating new regulations regarding Advance Notice of Arrival (ANOA) for yachts. These regulations are currently being applied with little notice so it is imperative that there be a central database that is constantly updated for cruisers to refer to.

Ciguatera, A Danger For Yacht Crews Sailing In The Tropics

Sun, 16 Sep 2007 12:09:24 +0200
When catching dinner, how concerned are cruisers and sailors about catching fish which carry the Ciguatera toxin? I only know what amounts to 'folklore'. In Australian waters many anglers avoid eating large fish which are known to dwell amid coral reefs. The parrot fish (beautiful fillets!!) is known to be particularly prone to Ciguatera. I understand that fish caught in deep water, or away from coral, do not carry Ciguatera. Is this correct?

The Lowdown on Boat Insurance

By Ethan K. Roberts

So you have spotted your dreamboat, it is the one you absolutely must have. Once you have purchased your boat you will definitely want to consider boat insurance. While I'm sure you're aware that boat insurance exists, however, you may not be aware that there are various types of boat insurances available to you.

In general, insurance companies will offer a boat owner a standard Watercraft Liability policy. Some insurance companies offer optional coverage at an additional fee. As with purchasing a new car, if your boat has been financed, the finance company will probably insist on mandatory boat insurance that may not be covered through the standard watercraft liability policy.

Most states make the standard boat insurance a requirement, it is important to abide by the law and obtain boat insurance immediately. Obtaining the minimum coverage will not only satisfy the law, but provide you and any passengers' protection as well. The standard insurance policy will offer coverage of any damage that may arise that is a direct result of actions on the boat. This is true no matter if the damage occurs while in transport or actually on the water.

It is possible that medical payment coverage is a requirement in your area. This type of coverage will pay for any medical expenses to a previously specified amount, which arises as a direct result of an accident covered by the boat insurance policy. As a suggestion, regardless of whether or not medical payment coverage is required, it would be wise to consider it. Medical expenses as a result of an accident can become extremely high and unaffordable, this type of insurance will help in covering these costs

Another additional type of coverage to the standard liability coverage is the wreck removal and pollution coverage. If your boat sinks or is involved in an accident for any reason, you are, by law, responsible for the removal of the boat at once. If any type of fuel spills into the water as a result of an accident, you will be held responsible, which may include a monetary sanction against you. The wreck removal and pollution coverage provides coverage for this type of incident, without the coverage you will be required to pay for the removal and fines out of your own pocket.

Just like in automobile coverage, you must definitely consider insuring you and your boat against an uninsured boat. If another boater does not carry any type of insurance or enough coverage, and an accident occurs between the uninsured boater and your boat within the water, this coverage will provide coverage for replacing your boat or any needed repairs it may requires as a result of an accident.

Sometimes other additional coverage will be available to you, such as coverage for theft, vandalism, collision and other damages that could occur by acts of god. You should speak with an insurance agent and find out what types of boat insurance coverage is available to you.

Tips About sailboats sale

Various maintenance should be carried out on your boat on a regular basis, whether you own a dinghy, RIB or yacht. Some of this maintenance is to keep the boat looking good, but some is essential for the proper working of your vessel. Don't forget about regular maintenance checks as you could be building up for major problems.

A Day Boat (dayboat) is exactly what it says - it is a boat usually used for Day Trips and therefore tends not to have any accommodation on board. Examples of uses of Day Boats would be to go for a trip along the English South Coast or go fishing. Some DayBoats will have sail as well as motors giving the choice of power depending on the conditions. Prices for these boats varies from less than 1,000 for a used craft from a boat brokerage, to over 50,000 for a high end specification. The Jeanneau Cap Camarat is a good example of a motor day boat and can be acquired for less than 20,000 second hand whilst the Hawk 20 is a good example of a sailing dayboat

Hints On seadoo bombardier

Years ago, inflatable boats where the most expensive boats on the market and only a few people could afford them. This was due to the use of exotic materials and the hours of meticulous hand labor which went into their construction. Now, the boats still use the best materials, but in the late seventies, the companies started investing millions of dollars in computer-driven assembly equipment. This enabled prices to be dramatically reduced as economies of scale rose, enabling more and more consumers to enjoy affordable inflatable boating. Zodiac and its sister company, Sevylor, are now the leading low-cost producer thanks to these technological investments. So be wary of inflatable prices substantially below the Zodiac/Sevylor line. They may be either produced in developing countries by unskilled labor, or marketed by companies who are unaware of the importance of profit margins. They will be glad to see your dollar today but may be unwilling or unable to fix a problem later, or supply that much needed spare part.

Most personal water craft are designed for two or three people, though four-passenger models exist. Stand-up PWCs were first to see mass production and are still popular for single riders. The invention of both major types of PWC is credited to Clayton Jacobson II of Arizona, originally a motocross enthusiast.

For many years all inflatables were made of Neoprene/Hypalon (or rubber) materials. Today modern materials and construction processes have made it possible to make inflatables out of strong plastic materials called PVC or Strongan (Zodiac's fabric). So, today most inflatables are made out of PVC or Hypalon. Each fabric is different and requires different fabric and glue for repairs.

A Little Care Will Keep Your Boat in Top Notch Condition

By Paul MacIver

The story of boats is as old as the human civilization. Theres reference of a boat Noah's ark in the Bible. Noah's ark was the boat built by the Biblical character Noah to save his family and animals from the Flood. Gondolas were the traditionally used boats in Venice.

Today, a boat is considered as one of the major tools of watercraft. A boat is a small vessel for traveling on water. It comprises of one or more buoyancy structures called hulls, and some system of propulsion such as a screw, oars, paddles, a setting pole, a sail, paddlewheels or a water jet.

The front of a boat is called the bow or prow and the rear of the boat is called the stern. The right side is starboard and the left side is port. The boat toilet is called the heads.

A boat with a housing compartment is called a houseboat or barge. A pontoon boat is a flat-bottomed boat that serves as a dock or as a floating structure to support a bridge. The pontoon boat is also known as a party boat. It is constructed of round tubes (called sponsons) that are attached to the outside, bottom edge of a large flat deck. It has a safety railing that surrounds the deck from all sides. The helm station is placed either in the middle of the deck or off to one side. Pontoon boats may be furnished with lawn furniture, and some deluxe pontoon boats may have upholstered seating, a dinette table, a roof, a cooler, and maybe even a head (toilet).

A recreational boat is used for water sporting activities or other recreational purposes.

A sailboat uses the wind normally to propel the boat instead of an engine.

Boat Maintenance:

People fond of water sports or water adventures keep their own boats. Taking good care of ones boat is very important. Good care and maintenance enhances the life of a boat and saves a lot of money also.

The following are some boat care tips:

The boat engine should be flushed each time after its used in salt water.

The underneath of the boat should be washed to prevent salt buildup.

The entire boat should be washed using soap and water, after every single use.

A non-skid cleaner should be used to scrub the deck.

The boat should be completely dried after washing.

The boat should be covered properly with a boat cover.

The boat should be waxed every few months to protect the finish from stains and UV damage.

Boat parts and accessories should be checked regularly, and defective parts should be replaced.

A boat cover is a very important accessory. When your boat is not in use, a cover will keep it protected from harsh weather and wearing. People use various boat covers and boat tops to protect their boats. Custom boat covers, bimini tops and canvas boat covers are some quite commonly used covers.

Most of day sailors (or even weekend sailors) will never really need navigational skills in order to be able to sail where they want. They will probably see the place right over the bow. People who sail further in the oceans, seas, and even on the Great Lakes of North America will - in turn - not get far without even the most elementary knowledge of how to find themselves on the charts, and where to sail next. As a matter of fact, they will sail far, very far - but from the course leading them to their port of destination.

RIB or sometimes known as RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) is a craft with a rigid hull and inflatable tube around the top. Inflatables can be moved and carried easily to their place of use, ribs may require a trailer. Most inflatables can be put together, inflated and ready to use in a short time. They have excellent performance, handling and versatility and are known to be very safe. They are made in a range of sizes from about 3 metres(10 feet) for a tender type, up to around 9 metres (30 feet) for an large offshore boat. They have also been used for other purposes apart from leisure such as search and rescue work with the coastguard and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Well known manufacturers of these boats include:

What if you come upon a boatload of refugees while cruising?

So, you're sailing along happily on your 40' yacht (just you and your wife), some 200 miles from the nearest landfall and you see a boat ahead. As you get closer you notice that the vessel is lying very low in the water and the people aboard are waving their arms frantically. As you approach you see that the vessel is very close to sinking and there are about 20 men aboard - obviously a boatload of refugees. It appears that the boat is going down fast.

Boom Brakes & Preventers, Preventing Injuries.

Thu, 20 Dec 2007 16:32:21 +0200
Not wishing to pre-empt the findings of the investigation into the latest tragedy in the ARC rally. But taking a good hard look at preventing injuries from being hit specifically by booms:-

During racing, the controlled gybe manoeuver may be performed many times without the use of a boom preventer - this is understandable. However, when in a cruising mode and when setting a course for a distant destination, is there a good reason for not using a boom preventer, so that if an unplanned gybe occurs - possible injury is averted ????
