Boat Insurance - Which One for You?

By John Gibb

You might not have realised it, but boat insurance is the oldest kind of insurance there is. People have been insuring their boats since the 17th century, and over time a number of standards have arisen. The chances are, though, that youre probably much more familiar with car insurance so the good news is that car insurance and boat insurance are actually very similar.

Basically, there are three situations you can be insured against: your boat (or its cargo) being damaged, your boat sinking, and your boat hitting another. Although few countries make it a requirement that your boat must be insured (considering how many boats sail in international waters), you would be very wise to at least buy the third party insurance, in case you hit a boat that is very much more valuable than your own. You will probably find it quite unnecessary to insure your boat against total loss unless it is very valuable it is mainly practical for large ships, and especially for ones carrying valuable cargo.

As with car insurance, policies come with an excess to discourage small claims for boat insurance, this is usually quite a large sum of money, as the intention of the insurance is to cover you against substantial losses instead of just scratches and dents.

There are also a few kinds of insurance you can buy that are unique to boating, although it is unlikely that you will ever find yourself in need of them. If you get Increased Value insurance, your policy will pay out at your boats market value if it is more than the amount you insured it for only useful if you expect your boat to go up in value. Finally, if youre thinking of sailing into a warzone, you might want to get war risk insurance. Of course, you might also want to get your head checked out, if you know what I mean.

Hints About cape dory sailboat

Cruising yachts are by the far the most common yacht in private use, making up most of the 25' to 45' (7 m to 14 m) range. These vessels can be quite complex in design, as they need a balance between docile handling qualities, interior space, good light-wind performance and on-board comfort. The huge range of such craft, from dozens of builders worldwide, makes it hard to give a single illustrative description. However, most favour a teardrop-planform hull, with a wide, flat bottom and deep single-fin keel to give good stability. Most are single-masted Bermuda rigged sloops, with a single fore-sail of the jib or Genoa type and a single mainsail. Spinnaker sails,in various sizes, are often supplied for down-wind use. These types are often chosen as family vessels, especially those in the 30- to 40-foot (8 to 12 m) range. Such a vessel will usually have many cabins below deck. Typically there will be three double-berth cabins; a single large saloon with galley, seating and navigation equipment; and a "head" consisting of a toilet and shower-room.

A jetboat is a boat propelled by a jet of water ejected from the back of the craft. Unlike a powerboat or motorboat that uses a propeller in the water below or behind the boat, a jetboat draws the water from under the boat into a pump-jet inside the boat, then expels it through a nozzle at the stern.

Tips When Buying Used Fishing Boats

By Stefan Jonsson

Before you head out looking for a used fishing boat you need to check your budget. Don't buy a too expensive boat as it might bother you later and you might have to sell the boat to shake out some money. Instead settle for a price range before you start looking and don't let yourself get sucked into the 'I got to have this one!'

Is the boat clean? If the seller hasn't bothered cleaning it before selling, what are the odds that he has been treating it good the time he had it? It's more important than you think. It's much better to buy a clean fishing boat from a pedant. Then you have a lesser chance of running into 'hidden errors'.

Don't buy a boat because you feel it's a great deal. Always have a look around and compare the price on it. A boat is just like a car and loses a lot of value in the beginning. Try to find the point where the value loss is not as steep anymore.

Even if you buy a used fishing boat online, from a local dealer or newspaper class fields it can be good to contact an expert. The expert can make a thorough examination of the boat and find errors you never would have. You can find a local boat expert simply by Googling for it and they usually charge around $10 per linear foot.

If you buy a newer used boat you should check the warranty. It feels a lot safer to buy a boat that has warranty. The first test rounds are critical and if something fails then you can easily use the warranty.

I hope that you liked these tips and I will come back with more good tips about used fishing boats.

Repairing a inflatable boat yourself is a difficult and often costly task. It is a complex procedure and the glue, solvents, fabrics and tools required are not easy to get and are usually expensive. However, most dealers stock these items and will sell you them, some will even offer directions and advice. Be warned though that "self repairs" may end in a visit to the dealer anyways, so a dealer evaluation before you try is always the best idea to determine the difficulty of the repair.

Buying a boatYou need to ask yourself several questions.
- What do I want to do with the boat?
- What is my budget?
- New or Used?
- Payment Plans
- Where can I store the boat?

Inflatable boats are the ideal yacht tender because of all their basic advantages including: lightness, stability and buoyancy. Unlike regular dinghies, they're easy to lift on board. With special rubstrake glued or thermobonded to their sides, inflatables won't damage or mark your yacht's hull or deck. Purchasing an inflatable tender almost guarantees the elimination of scuff marks and scratches on your yacht forever.

Are you eager to put your feet on a new used boat? Do you want a new used boat just for fun or will the boat be serving the interests of your family or do you have some special interest like fishing, boat camping, touring, bird watching or the like to take into account buying a new used boat?

Avoid some of the pitfalls by making use of these simple tips for buying a used boat without regret.

Many potential boat owners will tend to focus on how big a boat their economy allows them to invest in. The economic frames are of cause mandatory to take into account before buying a new used for most boat buyers. Normally a quest for a used boat is an indication of not having enough money to buy a new boat of your dreams. But of cause it can be related to some specific wishes.

Anyway the point to make is this: It is a much more healthy approach to clarify your specific needs linked to have a boat before you develop any concrete ideas of how much money to put into a new used boat and which boat type to go for. Honestly, we men tend to fall for the style of the boat and the status it might give before seriously considering our real needs.

Make use of this list of aspects to narrow down your needs linked to a new used boat and from that on generate your specific requirements for the new used boat:

- Who will be using your new boat? Will you always be in charge of the boat and care for it?

- How many people should be on board comfortable in your new used boat?

- Should the boat be a multi functioning boat or mainly be a boat for some specific functions, like fishing?

- How broad a variety of weather conditions should your new used boat be capable of being used in?

- How important is safety issued linked to your new used boat?

- Do you expect to make use of your new used boat for accommodation besides the obvious function of sailing?

- What are your possibilities for caring for the boat year round often an underestimated task that later generates conflicts in the family.

- What is your possibilities for keeping your boat at a convenient and safe place and to make it easy accessible?

When you have clarified these and other aspects of buying a new used boat you should prioritize your requirements for your new boat: What is the minimum of requirements you want your new used boat to fulfill?

Finally you can search for choosing which kind of boat type that will serve your needs best and to go hunting for your new used boat. In the end the whole story will be about how you get the best value for your money when buying your new used boat.

When inspecting the possible boat to buy follow this check list. Add other aspects beforehand you come up with and bring the list with you for your concerned inspection.

- Get a clear picture of the history of the used boat, including how many owners, age, storage, accidents, how many hours in the water, what has it been used for, why is it being sold now, how about the maintenance of the engine?

- Investigate the conditions of the boat. Get help from an experienced boat owner or technical expert about that boat type, to be able to investigate issues common to that kind of boat type. If it is a wooden boat be very careful to search for rot. Does the painting attempt to cover serious issues? Etc.

- Take it for a test drive. Be very aware of issues like vibrations, if the gear is smooth, how the steering is functioning, etc.

Remember that issues you bring up before your boat purchase might save you and your family lots of money as well as lots of trouble and wasted time and efforts.

In France, Pierre Debroutelle came up with a prototype for an inflatable boat in 1934. The first boat of its kind to be certified by the French Navy, Zodiac's model probably sparked the development of the civil and military inflatable boat industry. Unlike its counterparts, the boat improved by Pierre Debroutelle in 1937 was actually designed in a U-shape, with the two lateral buoyancy chambers connected by a wooden transom patented on August 10, 1943. This version was the direct predecessor of today's inflatable sports and pleasure boats. Since then many new manufacturers, new models and new designs have hit the market.

If all you need is a small boat to get you from ship to shore, then a typical inflatable tender is the best answer. If you're after a medium sized boat for diving or watersports there are many choices as well. If a large rigid-hulled inflatable (Rigid Inflatable Boat or RIB) for recreation, rescue or work is what you need, there are again many exotic designs available with a wide variety of standard and optional components. The choice is quite wide through the entire spectrum, ranging from very compact models with simple slatted or inflatable floors, to larger tenders with inflatable or wooden keels and solid wooden or aluminum floors, up to the fiberglass or aluminum rigid-hulled inflatables. To avoid confusion, before buying, or even shopping for an inflatable, discuss and decide on exactly what the uses or requirements will be for your new inflatable boat. This will minimize the models to choose from, which in turn will minimize confusion.

A Canadian compliance label (capacity or conformity) on your boat confirms it met the appropriate construction standards for small vessels when it was built. Boat Cover Support Poles

By David Evermon

Boat Cover support poles Why does one need a boat cover support pole ?

Boats have come a long way along with us over the years. It is said that boats have been around as long as human civilization. Boats nowadays are being bought by many people. As the need for people to take a break from their hectic life increases, many are turning towards spending sometime in any water body, be it sea or a lake. So with this urge, the sales of boats are also on the rise.

People are getting more attracted towards water sports and water adventures. Such people tend to own a boat for themselves. But it does not stop at just buying a boat. Taking good care of your boat is very essential too. Good maintenance and care would enhance the life span of your boat and moreover will save you a lot of money from repairs. One of the most important boat accessories to maintain your boat is a boat cover.

We dont use out boat daily, which means most of the time it is idling either on a dock or in your garage. That leaves it exposed to the elements of nature which can cause your boat to weather and also wear out. Using boat covers protects your boat from the elements and thereby helps you in maintaining your boat. They are normally made up of a soft, flexible and strong fabric as they have to weather the elements.

The biggest enemy of boat covers I standing water. Standing water promotes dry rot and mildew. When we cover our boat with a boat cover there are many areas where water can stagnate. To overcome this situation there are boat cover support poles. Support poles not only support your boat covers, they can also ventilate your boat so as to prevent the build up of mildew on the inside. Boat Cover Support systems help water to drain off the surface of the boat covers easily using a drainage system and hence you can be rest assured that youll not find any standing water on your boat covers.

The most common type of boat cover support pole system is Bow type Boat Cover Support System. They are normally made using thin planks of wood or fiber glass. They are cut a few inches wider than the boat and then made to form a bow shape over the boat. You can install sockets needed to hold the boat cover support system onto your boat, or in some systems, they come with a clip on feature too. Some systems also have the option of adjusting the length of the planks.

Boat Cover support pole is a much simpler system. It just has a pole that is placed on the floor of the boat and raised to needed height. That helps to keep the cover taut. The support poles can be adjusted to any size ranging from 20 to 60 inches. They are made out of aluminum with a rubber base and a cushioned tip to hold the cover up without damaging it. A boat cover needs two to three support poles for complete support.

Boats dont come cheap. They are big investments. Use the right accessories to protect your investment from the elements of nature and keep your boat, and your boat covers as good as new.!

Tips On catamaran sailboat

Before purchasing any jet ski, one should consider ones ability to store and to tow the jet ski. Generally a jet ski is best stored in an indoor environment, such as a shed or garage. One may need ample power or a towing package to tow the jet ski to lakes or the coast. A jet ski that cant be moved isnt going to provide a lot of fun.
Find sailboats for sale at our store.

In a jetboat, the waterjet draws water from beneath the hull where it passes through a series of impellers and stators - known as stages - which increase the velocity of the waterflow. Most modern jets are single stage while older waterjets may have as many as three stages. The tail section of the waterjet unit extends out through the transom of the hull above the waterline. This jetstream exits the unit through a small nozzle at high velocity to push the boat forward. Steering is accomplished by moving this nozzle to either side, or less commonly, by small gates on either side that direct the jetstream. Because the jet boat relies on the flow of water through the nozzle for control, it is not possible to steer a conventional jet boat without the throttle open.
